hemiepiphyte

A plant that spends only part of its life cycle as an epiphyte . Primary hemiepiphytes germinate in the canopy and later send roots to the ground; secondary hemiepiphytes begin rooted in soil, climb a host tree, and may eventually lose their ground connection.
